It’s official. Western Boone will play the winner of the Crawfordsville-Lebanon game once sectionals begin on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Southmont High School.
Crawfordsville and Lebanon will play on Tuesday after the Danville-Southmont game at 6 p.m.
North Montgomery will take on the winner of Danville-Southmont before the Western Boone game on Friday, Feb. 12.
“If you’re North Montgomery, you’re feeling pretty good right now,” Western Boone coach Brian Hole said. “If could have been worse, it could have been better.”
Hole said the sectional’s best three teams are all in the same bracket – Western Boone, Crawfordsville, and Lebanon. Hole also said he will certainly be preparing for both Crawfordsville and Lebanon.
“I think the (Lebanon-Crawfordsville game) will be a pretty good game,” Hole said. “But we have to prepare for both. Lebanon is playing well enough to come out of there and even win the sectional.”
Western Boone still has yet to play Crawfordsville in conference play. They will meet on Friday at Crawfordsville for what could possibly be for the Sagamore Conference title.
“We’ve been preparing for some time now,” Hole said. “We have a big conference game that means a lot of us on Friday.”
On Monday, Crawfordsville fell to Tri-West, 65-64, leaving Western Boone as the only undefeated team in the conference. If Western Boone beats Crawfordsville on Friday, the Stars will be conference champs. If Crawfordsville defeats Western Boone, they will be co-champs of the Sagamore Conference.
Western Boone has defeated Crawfordsville once this season, 50-49, to win the Sugar Creek Classic. A sectional match-up would be their third meeting of the season.
The Stars also defeated Lebanon earlier this season, 54-52, in conference play on Dec. 11.
Hole said Western Boone has been focusing on the little things such as boxing out, shooting free throws, and playing defense.
“We’ve been concentrating on those things and playing hard,” Hole said. “When we play hard and aggressive, good things happen.”
