DOVER – Danville, who continues to prove they are the best team in the Sagamore Conference, spoiled Homecoming Night at Western Boone on Friday after they handed the Western Boone boy’s basketball team their eighth loss of the season, 83-58
Western Boone dropped to 5-8 on the year and remain winless in conference play at 0-5.
Purdue recruit, Travis Carroll, wasn’t Danville’s only threat against Western Boone. His double-double of 23 points and 16 rebounds was a quiet performance. The Warriors had three other players in double figures.
“We didn’t have an answer for Carroll inside and we also didn’t have an answer for the rest of them,” Western Boone coach Kyle Spray said. “They’re a very good offensive team. They’re very balanced and have a lot of scorers.”
Western Boone was led by sophomore Tyler Aguirre who had a team high 17 points, including 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. Many of his shots gave Western Boone hope, but after digging a hole early in the game, Western Boone hardly got within 10 points of the Warriors.
“We were a little nervous to start the game and we played like it,” Spray said. “We had the big-game jitters, I think, and I’m not sure we were ready for their aggressiveness.”
Western Boone also got beat on the boards. Due mainly to Carroll’s 16 boards, Western Boone was out-rebounded 34-14.
“We didn’t compete on the glass as much as we were hoping tonight,” Spray said. “We knew going in that we were outmatched size wise.”
Western Boone will be back in action on Friday when they travel to North Montgomery for another round of SAC action. North Montgomery also picked up their eighth loss of the season on Friday when they fell to Lebanon, 74-70. The Western Boone-North Montgomery match-up will take place following the girls game on Jan. 29.
